BT have said that the overhead telephone lines will be fixed on Thursday 17th. Hopefully this means that I will be able to give out selections for Friday but I should think Saturday is a more realistic expectaction. I will keep you all posted.

Friday 11th May 2012

My apologies for the lack of an update last night. I am without internet access after a tree brought down some of the local overhead telephone lines. I am going to use this enforced break as an opportunity to streamline some of the ways in which selections are chosen which should mean a leaner meaner BannedBets from next week.

My intention is to alter the service slightly so that races are chosen more on potential rather than individual horses and the profit from an indvidual race is maximised with use of more (smaller) stake bets on both win singles, forecasts and tricasts. The idea is to both maximise the potential profit from any individual race and reduce losing runs.

I have been informed by BT that I can expect my telephone service to be fixed by “next week”. All they have done so far is collect the cables from the street and tie them to the poles to avoid a hazard and that was only after many calls from the residents of the street that I live on so I don’t expect much to happen over the next few days. I will keep you updated as to when I am able to start giving out selections again.

Monterosso wins the Dubai World Cup

Monterosso wins at 25/1 with Capponi 2nd at 14/1 (both advised eachway) I didn’t think to advise the forecast but I hope someone staked it – CSF pays £224.74!

Update later on tonight.

There will be an update later on tonight. Today Ludlow was abandoned due to frozen ground so ‘So Is She’ did’t run. ‘Bourne’ never got to 2/1 (best price 13/8) so wasn’t a bet.

Each way or win?

I mostly advise the longer odds selections we give out as each way bets (EWS or each way single) because I feel the extra strike rate from the places makes up for the reduced profit on the win. Provided you are happy with the reduced strike rate there is no reason why you can’t place these bets as win singles (WS). You will make slightly more profit in the long run but with the reduced strike rate which can put you under more pressure when placing your next bet. Whether you choose to go with the advised bet type or always stake EWS or always WS you should stick to one as chopping and changing will put you at risk from the dreaded Murphy’s Law.

A couple of winners

We went close at Cheltenham today with 50/1 Bottman just missing the places by a head.  It was at Doncaster though where we were in the money. Alasi won the mares hurdle there by a nose (9/4 advised out to 5/1 SP) and Quicuyo won a decent handicap chase (14/1 advised in to 12/1 SP). I still need to look at Sunday’s racing so check back tomorrow at about 12pm to see if we have any bets.

Price unavailable

We missed a winner earlier this month when a price wasn’t available and today we missed a loser with South Leinster never going past 6/4. (recommended at 2/1+). Quadrillion was a little dissapointing but you will get some bad runs from the horses at 25/1.
